Feel-Good Shopping: Support These 5 Nonprofits (and More) at Buffalo Exchange

In case you haven’t heard, Buffalo is completely bagless! Instead of offering single-use plastic bags at checkout, we take that 5¢ bag cost and give customers a token they can donate to one of three local non-profits. Our Tokens for Bags® program has kept over 19.25 million plastic bags out of the environment and raised more than $960,000 for thousands of local charities. Here are just a few of the amazing organizations you can support when you shop at Buffalo Exchange:

Help Care for Homeless Pets in Chicago

Started in 2010 by a local Edison Park resident with a big vision, Chicago Pet Rescue is a volunteer-based, foster-home-focused rescue for homeless animals who need a second chance. Instead of being kept in cages, most of their animals are placed in loving foster homes until they find their forever families. They rescue all kinds of animals—from dogs and cats to birds and other small critters. You can help change their lives just by shopping at BE Chicago-Andersonville.

Think Like a Bee at BE Albuquerque

Thinklikeabee is a grassroots organization that—well—tries to think like a bee! Did you know over 70% of our favorite foods are pollinated by bees? Their mission is to keep these hardworking pollinators happy and healthy, which in turn helps birds, bats, butterflies and other pollinator pals. They’re working to build a community where humans and pollinators can thrive together. Support the buzz by shopping at BE Albuquerque.

Level the Playing Field for NYC Students

The GO Project is working to level the playing field for under-resourced families in New York City whose children are struggling in public schools. Today, 80% of NYC students graduate on time—but for students with special education classifications, that number drops below 50%. The GO Project steps in early to help close those learning gaps and give students the tools they need to succeed in school—and beyond. Help support their work by shopping at BE NYC-Chelsea.

Support Connected Lane County in Eugene

Founded in 2014, Connected Lane County serves over 3,000 underserved youth in Lane County each year. Their team works with local schools, industry partners and community orgs to help young people explore their interests, build real-world skills and plan for life after high school. Their programs create meaningful opportunities for personal and professional growth. Shop at BE Eugene to support their mission!

Shop for the Birds at BE Spokane!

The Spokane Audubon Society is all about protecting birds and their habitats in the Inland Northwest. Through bird rescue, habitat restoration, land conservation and youth outreach, they’re helping both feathered friends and future generations. Their Save-A-Bird team even transports injured birds to wildlife rehabilitators. Show some love for the birds by shopping at BE Spokane.

These five are just the start! Each Buffalo Exchange store partners with three different local nonprofits, so check in to see which ones your local Buffalo is supporting right now—and stop by to show them some love.
