May Acts of Kindness

Five months in and our 50 Acts of Kindness initiative is going strong! May began with a donation drive for Ascencia at Buffalo Exchange Sherman Oaks to help those in need in the Los Angeles area. Then, Buffalo Exchange Tempe hopped onto the train by hosting a shopping event benefiting one•n•ten, an org that serves Arizona’s LGBTQ youth. Next up, our San Francisco Haight St store supported The Marine Mammal Center by sponsoring Flappy the Fur Seal! Back at Buffalo Exchange HQ, they collected donations for the Emerge Center Against Domestic Abuse to help those seeking a life free of abuse. Finally, members from our NoHo location walked the 2024 New York AIDS Walk to raise funds and awareness about HIV/AIDS. Keep reading to find out more about each of these acts of kindness:

Kindness Act #18: Donation Drive for Ascencia at BE Sherman Oaks

BE Sherman Oaks collected donations of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and more to help Ascencia make hygiene kits for people experiencing homelessness. Los Angeles has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the country, with over 75,000 individuals experiencing homelessness on any given night. Ascencia has been working hard to help these individuals for over 17 years. Their work includes outreach and connection to resources, housing navigation and ongoing case management after housing, with an amazing 98% housing retention rate!

Kindness Act #19: Shop for a Cause at BE Tempe

BE Tempe supported Arizona LGBTQ youth by hosting a shopping event on May 15th from 7-9pm! 10% of sales from the event went directly to one•n•ten to support their mission of serving Arizona’s LGBTQ youth and young adults ages 11-24 by providing empowering social and service programs that promote self‐expression, self‐acceptance, leadership development and healthy life choices. If you didn’t make it out to shop, help support their goal of providing a supportive community where youth can heal, learn and confidently live out their identity by volunteering or donating!

Kindness Act #20: Sponsoring Flappy the Fur Seal at BE San Francisco (Haight St)

BE San Francisco (Haight St) supported The Marine Mammal Center by sponsoring Flappy the Fur Seal! Flappy was only 4 months old when she was found weak, malnourished and totally alone, weighing in just above her birth weight. Thankfully, Flappy made it to The Marine Mammal Center’s hospital. It wasn’t long before Flappy had transformed from a skinny pup to a fur seal ready for a second chance at life in her ocean home. Since their founding, The Marine Mammal Center has rescued more than 24,000 animals just like Flappy! Join BE Haight St in supporting The Marine Mammal Center’s mission by adopting a seal yourself through their Adopt-a-Seal® program!

Kindness Act #21: Donation Drive for Emerge Center Against Domestic Abuse

Buffalo Exchange HQ collected donations for Emerge throughout May, totaling over 10 boxes of donations! Each year, the organization helps 6,000 survivors of domestic violence in Southern Arizona in their mission is to support, sustain and celebrate a life free from abuse. They offer emergency shelter, community services, education and a 24/7 crisis hotline for those in need. If you need help, call their hotline at (520) 795-4266.
