Happy Black History Month! Meet Our Team

Happy Black History Month Buffalo Exchange Employee Spotlight

In honor of Black History Month, we’re shining a light on some of the amazing African American Buffalo Exchange employees who play a major role in making us the creative, cool, fashion-forward business we are today.

Torri, Buyer at Buffalo Exchange Tempe

How’d you get started at Buffalo Exchange?

My love for fashion started early—I used to shop at Buffalo Exchange when I was in middle school and I always knew I wanted to work at a place like this. Eventually, I applied, and now I’m a Buyer!

What do you love most about your job?

There’s so much I love about working here! First and foremost, the people—my managers and coworkers are some of the most amazing and supportive individuals I’ve ever met. I also love the freedom to express myself through fashion, which has always been important to me. Lately, I’ve found so much joy in the sense of community I’ve built with my customers. Whether I’m personal shopping for them or just listening to their life stories, it’s a beautiful experience to connect with people in such a meaningful way.

What’s your biggest passion outside of fashion?

Dance has been my greatest passion since I was three years old. I grew up dancing competitively, starting with ballet—my first love—before moving on to hip-hop, contemporary, jazz and more. Unfortunately, after 15 years, I had to stop due to injury, but dance will always be a part of me. Now, I channel that creative energy into fashion and photography, which I’m deeply passionate about. One of my biggest dreams is to transfer to NAU and pursue paralegal studies. I’m excited for the future and the opportunities that lie ahead!

What does Black History Month mean to you?

As a young Black woman in today’s world, Black History Month holds deep significance for me. It’s a time to celebrate our culture, honor our ancestors and acknowledge the struggles and triumphs that have shaped our history. More than anything, I believe in the power of unity within the Black community—we need to continue uplifting and supporting one another. I’m incredibly proud to be Black, and I want all my Black brothers and sisters to take this month to embrace and celebrate their beauty, strength, and heritage.

Ginde, Cashier at Buffalo Exchange Boston (Somerville)

How’d you get started at Buffalo Exchange?

I was exploring my new neighborhood after moving to Boston and walked into my local Buffalo Exchange. I asked for an application and the rest is history!

What do you love most about working at Buffalo?

The staff and environment! It’s so easy (and encouraged!) to be yourself here. I’ve made so many great friends at Buffalo.

What’s your biggest passion outside of fashion?

Literature – I’m currently working on my PhD in English!

What’s your biggest dream/goal for yourself in 2025?

To surround myself with even more amazing people, explore my hobbies and attend more local shows and events!

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month is a time to love and celebrate my community more than I already do; to celebrate Black art, Black culture, Black love and Black brilliance every single day!

Chafik, Buyer at Buffalo Exchange East Village

How’d you get started at Buffalo?

I got started at Buffalo Exchange by applying to 3 NY locations, all of which were already hired up. Luckily, I was shopping in the East Village one day and came across the location I didn’t apply to for whatever reason — I filled out an application in-store and the rest was history. Maybe it was fate, “maybe it’s Maybelline”.

What’s your favorite part about working here?

The clothes, obviously! Seeing the many different cool pieces and styles come across the buy counter is like being a kid in a candy store. I love seeing the different types of shoppers that come in, the looks, the style inspiration and honestly my coworkers are literally the best, like 10/10.

What’s your biggest passion outside of fashion?

I’m a performer! I sing, act and dance. I went to Howard University and received my BFA in Musical Theater. I love all things music & art and I love to teach. I’m currently venturing more into the music industry and working on an EP, so stay tuned.

What’s your biggest dream or goal this year?

To honestly just be more present. Take things as they come and be where my feet are. I also want to continue to just work towards furthering my territory in the music/theatre industries and for people to continue to see me as the light that I am.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month means venerating and uplifting my ancestors and the many historical Black folks that built this country on their backs. Paying homage to the countless Black people, known and unknown, who had a hand in shaping this world that I am able to walk through today with my head held high. That’s what Black History Month means to me and I make it my duty to do that every month of the year, not just these 28 days.
