How did you start working at Buffalo Exchange?

A friend of mine was an Associate Store Manager at the Berkeley store, which had just moved and was very busy with shoppers during the back-to-school season. I offered to help out, working afternoons around my three other jobs, and was hired as a part-time temporary employee. I was having so much fun that, two months later, I became a full-time Buyer and never looked back!

What was your journey to becoming Buffalo Exchange’s Business Manager?

After a few years as a Buyer, it was time to move into management. I spent five more years in the store, first as an Associate Store Manager and then as Store Manager. I was offered the opportunity to move to Tucson, AZ as the Business Manager in 2017. I’d worked closely with IT and Accounting when we were developing and deploying our point-of-sale system and had a lot of knowledge about how these departments support the stores, but had no idea if that was enough of a foundation for this role. Luckily, someone encouraged me and had faith I could learn whatever was needed. Once I arrived here, the managers were patient and willingly helped answer all of my non-expert questions.

How have you seen Buffalo evolve over the years?

The obvious answer is that there were less than ten stores when I started! We had single-person HR and IT departments, cashiers did their own dailies and buying was done on a calculator with a piece of paper. With growth and time came added structure, support and technology that allowed store personnel to focus more on customers and inventory.

The one thing that has been consistent in all the jobs I’ve had at Buffalo is that this company is made up of amazing people — it’s my pleasure and honor to work with them every day.
