April Acts of Kindness
In case you didn’t know, April is Earth Month! On top of that, we continued celebrating 50 years of sustainable fashion through our year-long 50 Acts of Kindness initiative. Buffalo Exchange Chicago Wicker Park kicked off the month by hosting a shopping event supporting local Chicago artists. Then Buffalo Exchange Boston Brookline got into the sustainable spirit by hosting a donation drive at the store. In honor of Earth Day, Buffalo shoppers across the country shopped our annual $1 Sale to raise money for Goats of Anarchy. Buffalo Exchange Seattle continued spreading the love for our furry friends by supporting a local animal sanctuary. Finally, Buffalo Exchange Houston helped their community by supporting a local youth organization. Keep on reading to find our more about each of these acts:
Kindness Act #13: Shopping Event Benefiting the Chicago Artists Coalition at BE Chicago Wicker Park
BE Chicago Wicker Park kicked off the month by supporting artists through a shopping event at the store. On Friday April 5th, 10% of sales went to the Chicago Artists Coalition. CAC is a non-profit organization that supports contemporary Chicago artists and curators by offering residency programs, exhibitions, professional development and resources that enable them to live, work and thrive in the city. This amazing org is deeply committed to advancing the cause of art and its importance to Chicago’s culture and economy by cultivating a wide-reaching civic, philanthropic and public support network.
Kindness Act #14: Donation Drive for Second Chances at BE Boston Brookline
BE Boston Brookline supported Second Chances for their act of kindness by hosting a donation drive from April 8-April 14. Second Chances provides free clothing, shoes, accessories and gift cards to hundreds of homeless and lower-income Somerville and Cambridge residents. Through clothing drives and outdoor donation bins, they’re able to keep more than 300,000 pounds of textiles a year out of landfills while also partnering with local shelters and service providers to support and sustain their clients through challenging times. Kindness Act #15: Earth Day $1 Sale Benefiting Goats of Anarchy
To celebrate Earth Day, we hosted our annual Earth Day $1 Sale on April 20th at all Buffalo Exchange locations. Not only did we keep thousands of clothing out of landfills and in circulation, but we were able to raise $41,425 to support the Goats of Anarchy! This vegan animal sanctuary is home to over 250 animals including sheep, cows, horses, dogs and, of course, goats. Check our Earth Day Recap for more about the fun day. Kindness Act #16: Supporting Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary at BE Seattle
BE Seattle supported our furry friends at Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary. Resilient Hearts is an LGBTQ-led organization on a mission to save animals from high-kill shelters and unite them with their forever families! They welcome visitors, so come say hello to their pets up for adoption and maybe even take home a furry new family member.
Kindness Act #17 Supporting Houston Youth with TWST4Girls at BE Houston
Wrapping up the month, BE Houston supported TWST4Girls, which provides community and education to Houston kids and gives them a sense of purpose and confidence. This org offers 1:1 mentorship, life skills development, career exposure, cultural experiences and much more! Since their establishment in 2014, they’ve provided over 80,000 hours of service to the community, served over 15.5 thousand children and families and are proud to be celebrating their 10 year anniversary!
