5 Tips for Shopping Buffalo Exchange’s Earth Day $1 Sale

Are you ready to shop the Earth Day $1 Sale? Here’s the scoop, straight from the horse’s mouth: On Saturday, April 19th, Buffalo Exchange will be hosting our annual giving back blowout where you can shop an awesome selection of clothes, shoes and accessories for just $1 apiece. Here’s the best part: 100% of the proceeds benefit American Wild Horse Conservation, the nation’s champion for humane, in-the-wild protection of wild horses and burros on public lands in the United States. Before you attend the biggest secondhand shopping event of the year, hold your horses: prep for success with these expert Earth Day $1 Sale tips!

Arrive Early

Stock for the $1 Sale is limited! To make sure other shoppers don’t gallop away with all of the goodies, plan to arrive early for the best selection. The $1 Sale won’t officially begin until normal store-opening hours, but we recommend lining up ahead of time (30 minutes to an hour in advance) to claim your spot in the queue!

Dress the Part

We love putting together a great look, but the Earth Day $1 Sale isn’t exactly the occasion for an ornate get-up. For this shopping event, you’ll want to dress comfortably and simply: think basic leggings, tees, sundresses and sneakers. Dressing rooms won’t be available to try on your $1 Sale haul, so plan accordingly and wear pieces you can easily layer your finds over. Or just plan to donate anything that doesn’t end up fitting – remember, it’s all for a good cause! Most $1 Sales will take place outside, so we also suggest hats, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen.

Pro-tip: If you’re expecting rainy weather or live in a super-sunny region (we’re looking at you, Arizona!) consider bringing along an umbrella to shield you from the elements and keep your shopping experience as comfortable as possible.

Visit the ATM

The $1 Sale is CASH ONLY: that means no credit/debit, contactless payments like Apple Pay or Google Pay, IOUs or paper checks will be accepted. Before you arrive at your local Buffalo, be sure to stop by the ATM for singles, fives, tens or twenties! Have Buffalo trade or a gift card? We can’t accept these for $1 Sale items, but you can head inside the store to shop when you’re done and use them on any of our regularly priced items!

Make It an Outing

Friends make everything better, so why not bring them along to this community-centered event? Waiting in line is much better with company, not to mention that you’ll have a better chance digging up gems if you split up to cover more ground. While you’re rummaging, remember to be kind and respectful to other shoppers: it’s all for charity, after all. If you encounter a shopper disturbing other customers, please bring it to the attention of a Buffalo employee!

Bring a Bag

To keep track of all your amazing finds, we recommend bringing a reusable tote (or two, or three). Note that $1 items generally can’t be brought into the store afterwards & we’re not always able to stow away $1 Sale items for you. Don’t have a reusable bag of your own? Buffalo sells reusable totes for just $2.50 apiece! Even better, they’re made from recyclable materials — it’s the perfect accessory for Earth Day.

Run Wild!

Now that you’ve got the rundown on the Earth Day $1 Sale, hope you’re raring to shop! Set your alarms bright and early for Saturday, April 19th. While you’re counting down the days, get familiar with the majestic animals of American Wild Horse Conservation, like the legendary stallion Picasso, on AWHC’S instagram.  If you don’t get a chance to shop the $1 Sale this year, don’t worry: you can get back in the saddle for 2026! Keep up with $1 Sale announcements on Buffalo Exchange’s Instagram and TikTok.
