50 Years of Fashion: Buffalo Exchange 50th Anniversary Pop Up Shop Recap!

That’s a wrap on our 50th Anniversary Pop Up Shop! In case you missed it, the Buffalo Exchange 50th Anniversary Pop Up Shop on March 16-17 was the event of the year: Buffalo Exchange stores across the country spent months saving incredible inventory for a weekend-long shop-a-thon where customers could browse vintage, designer gems, current trends and one-of-a-kind finds — basically, all the best of Buffalo Exchange!

The fun didn’t stop at fashion: each Buffalo location kept the party going with giveaways, raffles, sweet treats, live art, music and performances by local artists! But before we go any further, we have to say a huge THANK YOU to our sellers, shoppers and all-around supporters for celebrating our 50th Anniversary with us! Buffalo Exchange wouldn’t be the same without you (and your excellent eye for style). Now, let’s get to the good stuff: scroll through for a quick recap on all the fun from our 50th Anniversary Pop Up Shop.

Setting The Scene

The major key to any immersive event is excellent decor: each Buffalo Exchange location showed their creativity by crafting hand-painted signs, knit banners and even commissioning window murals by local artists! The stores also created backdrops out of streamers, balloons, paper flowers and fun props. Limited-edition promo materials like fans, sticker sheets, pins, post cards, the Buffalo Exchange Zine and more were also sprinkled throughout the store, free for customers to take home!

Shop Til You Drop

Remember when we said the stores spent months saving up amazing inventory for the 50th Pop Up? That was no exaggeration: each store had dozens of boxes packed to the brim with vintage from as early as the 1920s, heritage luxury items from Chanel and Gucci and highly desirable finds from current must-have designer brands like Bode, Diesel, Farm Rio and more. There was also an amazing blend of 80s and 90s retro, fun and funky fashion and LOTS of western-wear (it is Buffalo Exchange, after all!)

As soon as the stores opened Saturday morning, customers began pouring into their local Buffalos. We were joined by old friends and new, longtime Buffalo Exchange customers and folks who’d just recently heard about our business — talk about great timing! Shoppers who met certain spending thresholds earned extra-special swag like a sweet magnet sheet, Buffalo tee or the new canvas Buffalo Exchange bag (perfect for transporting a massive haul or cleanout!)

Game On!

When customers weren’t shopping, they could try their luck by spinning the raffle wheel or playing a game of ‘Pin the Tail on the Buffalo’ to win a sweet prize. Some shoppers got a glimpse into the future by way of tarot readings or a fashion fortune telling session, and because we love a good crafting moment, a few stores set up DIY bracelet, hair-charm and pin-back button stations! After expending energy between all the fun and games, shoppers recharged with delectable snacks and refreshments by local vendors (including a tasty new tonic by Mood and Boochcraft exclusively at Buffalo Exchange California locations!)

Saturday (and Sunday!) Night Live

An event this electric needs a soundtrack! Stretching coast to coast from Bellingham, WA to Brooklyn, NY, musicians like OrangeOrange, Rachell Rivas, Alfred Banks, IndigoFuzz and DropDeadGorgeous got the good energy going with live performances. A rotating roster of DJs from youth nonprofit organization Warehouse 505 kept the party going all weekend long at Buffalo Exchange Albuquerque!

Thanks for the Memories

Back to those backdrops we mentioned earlier: after spending an hour or two scoring new finds, party-goers commemorated the occasion with a snapshot at a photobooth (complete with props!) At Buffalo Exchange Houston, shoppers were lucky enough to go home with a hand drawn 5-minute portrait by local artist Kendra Michelle. At Buffalo Exchange Boston (Somerville,) customers could pick up a print from illustrator Copper and Print!

Well, that’s just about everything to recap for the 50th Pop Up Shop — thanks again to all of our amazing customers for celebrating with us! Even though the party’s over, there’s still more to come: for the rest of the year, we’ll continue to give back to the communities we’re part of through our 50 Acts of Kindness initiative! Stay tuned on our social media to hear what else 2024 has in store.
